Billie Holiday - Improvisational Autobiography

'I can’t stand to sing the same song the same way two nights in succession. If you can, then it ain’t music, it’s close order drill, or exercise or yodeling or something, not music.' - Billie Holiday

An informal autobiography of Billie Holiday, counteracting the tragic junkie narrative, showcasing some of the most exciting stories from her life. The book also aims to emote other memories of her through other senses. The fur bound cover reminiscent of her coat and the cover also is designed like a cigarette case, and the cigarette butt at the end gives the book a tobacco smell.

Billie Holiday believed strongly in improvisation within her music, inspired by this, instead of page numbers each page is given a note on the C Major Blues Scale. The book is able to be reordered, the reader can create a new 'solo' every time.
